While officially known as Ramsey Hill, locals often refer to this neighborhood as “Cathedral Hill” because of its proximity to the beautiful and iconic Cathedral of Saint Paul. This stretch of land on Selby Avenue might just don the crown for the prettiest local boutiques and restaurants in the city. Their ivy-covered facades and stunning outdoor patios add splashes of green and character any sidewalk stroller will appreciate. An added bonus to the historic area is its closeness to other landmarks, including the James J. Hill house, F. Scott’s Fitzgerald’s former residence and the Minnesota History Center.
Eat Local
Cathedral Hill is a hotspot for cozy restaurants that are sure to leave you filled with good memories and tasty eats. Local cafes like New Louisiana Cafe and French Hen Cafe are sure to start your morning off right with your favorite breakfast plates, while Revival serves southern comfort fare from fried chicken to hush puppies. Mango Thai Cuisine brings worldly dishes to the table with a variety of traditional pad Thai and curries. Bon Vie and A Piece of Cake double up on handmade goodness with American bistro bites and accompanying bakery. Stop by Red Cow to bite into a gourmet burger or delicious brunch plates, authentic Russian entrees at Moscow on the Hill or upscale Italian cuisine at La Grolla.

Named the best neighborhood bar of St. Paul in 2017 by City Pages, The Muddy Pig dishes up pork-centric dishes alongside a laundry list of local and international beers. Or head to another local favorite watering hole, Fern’s Bar & Grill, for a drink with friends and munch on their bar buffet. Toast to St. Paul’s famed author with a signature cocktail at his namesake bar, Fitzgerald’s. For a non-alcoholic alternative, Nina’s Coffee Cafe brews fresh coffee inside one of Cathedral Hill’s iconic brownstone buildings.
