Once the weather starts getting warmer, Minnesotans feel the itch to spend every moment outdoors. A favorite local pastime is capping a long summer evening with some popcorn and an outdoor movie. And in the Twin Cities, there are plenty of opportunities to experience this picturesque cinema setting. From Minneapolis parks to drive-in movie theaters, movies are streamed all across the metro area, but nothing beats watching a favorite film while sitting on home plate of Target Field, admiring the starlit Minneapolis skyline.

Hennepin County’s Go Outside program will be hosting their free outdoor movie series at Target Field this summer. The Go Outside program was started to encourage people to do exactly what the name says: go outside. This program hosts events all summer and is focused on getting people to go out in the community, be social and have fun.

This year’s schedule has five well-known classic and contemporary movies going up on the big screen at Target Field from June through August, each beginning at 7 p.m. This week’s movie is Footloose (1984) starring Kevin Bacon as the new kid in town, Ren McCormack. Watch with family and friends as Ren McCormack struggles to make changes to a community where the most basic form of fun, dancing, is illegal.

Don’t miss out on this opportunity to kick back and laugh with your community at Target Field while watching these great movies this summer.
