TWIN CITIES THRIFTING GUIDE

Find unexpected treasures at these secondhand stores in Minneapolis and St. Paul

By Aubrey Schield

Maybe you’re looking for a vintage record from the 1960s. Or perhaps you need a velour jumpsuit for lounging. Whatever you’re in need of can most likely be found while browsing the never ending collection of secondhand goods at thrift stores. The Twin Cities have several stores to hunt for unique items to add to your collection, home decor and wardrobe (or Halloween costume). Check out our top five picks for a thrifting excursion that would make Macklemore proud.

Junket
The windows are filled to the brim with used goods, and several treasures crowd the front door, welcoming you into a place where what’s “tossed is found.” Founded with a mission to reduce waste and provide a fun, high-quality thrift store shopping experience for people, Junket is the ultimate destination for vintage shopping.

Ax-Man Surplus
It’s easy to get lost in this secondhand store, which touts everything from electrical wires to holiday decorations to clothing. Ax-Man has three locations throughout the Twin Cities, so a fun day of thrifting is never far away.

Flamingo’s Divine Finds
Only open during special sale dates (second weekend of each month), Flamingo’s is a one-of-a-kind secondhand store in south Minneapolis that features vintage, eclectic household finds. And with a bright pink façade, you can’t miss what the Star Tribune ranked the Best Vintage Furniture Store of Minnesota in 2016.

A Little Bird on Grand
This is a fitting store for the charming Tangletown neighborhood in south Minneapolis. All the items, including vintage glassware, handmade jewelry, scarves and handbags, at Little Bird are exquisitely preserved and look almost new.
