Griffin Gallery Golf Art Exhibition
September 23, 2016 @ 9:00 am - October 2, 2016 @ 9:00 pm
Upon entering Hazeltine National Golf Club, you are greeted by a life-size bronze golfer “walking” the lush fairways of Hazeltine. Aptly named “Walking Man,” the statue is the work of Bill Mack, an Edina-based sculptor and painter who has gained international fame for stunning relief sculptures. The six-foot-high rendition of Hazeltine’s logo has proven iconic for the course.
In honor of the 2016 Ryder Cup, Mack recreated a smaller version of the bronze statue atop a globe, which displays every country that qualifies for the tournament as well as the name of each winner since 1927. This portable version will be available for purchase at Hazeltine throughout the week, marking the first year that art appears at the tournament.
More golf art awaits you at Griffin Gallery in Edina, the 25,000-square-foot gallery located only 25 minutes east of Hazeltine. Throughout Ryder Cup week, the space—owned by Bill Mack and his wife Deb—will be chock full of pieces by famous artists including LeRoy Neiman—known for bright, expressionist paintings of golfers and other athletes—as well as Bud Chapman, the man behind the whimsical art series “18 Infamous Golf Holes.” Chapman will be making appearances at Griffin Gallery throughout the week.
